It is called newsprint and it is really low end acidified paper since they know you are going to throw it away at the end of the day. The acid content is why it turns yellow if you leave it out in the sunlight. It is made from pine pulp usually from scraps left from other wood working operations so no "new trees" were destroyed - it is the left over from ones they were already destroying to make plywood and other wood products.

Irronically, it is called Newsprint Paper... very cheap to make
