Did you enter a contest or sweepstakes? I'm assuming not and this is a scam that will end up costing you. Report the check to the authorities but do not cash it or deposit it in your account.

Usually when you read the fine print on the check it will say something like. "Endorsement of this check authorizes periodic withdrawals from your checking account" or "Endorsement of this check authorizes us to transfer your phone services to our phone company" or some other phrase that says you are getting scammed. Also sometimes those checks are only good as credits on future purchases from the company sending the check.
No legit that I have ever seen.

If you don't anything about it or wasn't expecting the $$$ then it probably is a scam. I would advise you not to cash the check!

phishing scam.
If it is legit, take it to a check cashing place, not your bank.
