I agree, a six year old can hear their music and the words mean nothing. I have an eleven year old daughter and when she was six she could have listened to that and she probably would have loved dancing to it. Back then I could watch "South Park" and she would be oblivious to the sexual references, because at that age everything is very literal. I think if people make a big deal out of the lyrics and create a feeling of "badness" about the lyrics, then the child will become curious. I haven't heard their albums but can't imagine them being too bad. My daughter loves Hips Don't Lie. Now I did and still do curb listening to Eminem around my daughter, except for the radio edited versions of his commercial hits. At eleven, my daughter is not permitted to listen to any unedited stuff before I read the lyrics to the songs. Hope that helps!

No! They probably won't dwell on explicit content but certain explicit "catch phrases" may capture their attention. Stick to the Cheetah Girls (as mentioned above), Aly & AJ, Stacie Orrico, maybe Hillary Duff, certainly not Beyonce and Shakira's latest album.

I don't even think most of them are appropriate for 13 year olds because of the suggestive language and lyrics. I listen to them, but not around my kids.

I dunno...have not concentrate to the soundtracks but. But I consider so due to the fact that some of the occasions, little children do not concentrate to the phrases, simply the beat and the backround tune except they are saying a nasty phrase that simply pops out however Shrika and Beyonce doesnt quite curse that so much.

I am a huge Shakira fan. She is an incredible artist, and I think she's a great role model because she writes all of her own lyrics, she has been recording for Sony since she was 13, and she is smart and classy. She is not a skank - she shows her belly when she does belly dancing, but there is a reason for that. It's the same reason why you see revealing dresses on shows like "Dancing with the Stars" - it helps people to see her great moves!
That said, there are a few songs with minor sexual themes that you want to be careful of. Nothing blatant though. Here, I went to shakiramedia.com and looked through all the lyrics that might be inappropriate, including the Spanish stuff. But remember that it's a bit out of context. If it seems bad, find the entire lyric to understand the whole song. If the questionable lyric was in the chorus to the song, I noted that - but otherwise it's only a single line.
The only way for YOU to decide is to listen to the music yourself. Don't listen to the people on this site without giving the music a chance.

Semi-inappropriate lyrics by Shakira:

And I'm on tonight
You know my hips don't lie and I'm starting to feel it's right
All the attraction, the tension
Don't you see baby, this is perfection
("Hips Don't Lie" CHORUS - Oral Fixation)
-------------------------
Lucky that my lips not only mumble, they spill kisses like a fountain
Lucky that my breasts are small and humble, so you don't confuse them with mountains
("Whenever, Wherever" - Laundry Service (spanish version = "Suerte.")
---------------------------
You keep on aiming for the top, And quit before you sweat a drop
Feed your empty brain, with your hydroponic pot
Start out playing with yourself, You get more fun within your shell
Nice to meet you but I gotta go my way
("Poem to a Horse" CHORUS - Laundry Service. This is an anti-pot song.)
-------------------------
Underneath your clothes, There's an endless story
There's the man I chose, There's my territory
And all the things I deserve, For being such a good girl honey
("Underneath Your Clothes" CHORUS - Laundry Service)
------------------------
I'm sure she doesn't know how to touch you like I would
I beat her at that one good, don't you think so?
("Don't Bother" - Oral Fixation)
------------------------
They believe you now have everything you wanted
And once you have become a star you've got no right to b****
("Animal City" - Oral Fixation)
--------------------------
I'd like to be the owner of the zipper on your jeans
And that thing that makes you happy
I'd like to be the beginning, the end, and the in between
And be your slave, and be your queen
("Hey You" - Oral Fixation)
-------------------------
Tell me what's the use of a 24-inch waist if you don't touch me?
Tell me what's the use again, of being on TV every day if you don't watch me?
("Your Embrace" - Oral Fixation)
------------------------
Told you I felt lucky with my humble breasts, Well I don't
Said that I was sure the world was gonna change, Well I'm not
Swore I didn't give a damn 'bout what they say, But I do
Promised that I'd never ever lie to you
....
I'm not a virgin, but I'm not the whore you think
And I don't always smell like strawberries and cream
("Costume Makes the Clown" - Oral Fixation)
------------------------
You've seen the way I am, without makeup, without clothes
And you accept me like nobody, and I will always love you, baby
("Something" - Oral Fixation
------------------------
se me acaba el argumento.... (MY ARGUMENT IS FINISHED....)
cada vez que se aparece frente a mí tu anatomía (EACH TIME THAT YOUR ANATOMY APPEARS IN FRONT OF ME)
("Ciega, Sordomuda" - Donde Estan Los Ladrones album)
--------------------------
te regalo mi cintura (I GIVE YOU MY WAIST)
y mis labios para cuando quieras besar (AND MY LIPS FOR WHEN YOU WANT TO KISS)
("Tu" - Donde Estan Los Ladrones)
-------------------
te quiero porque eres claro, claro, claro (I LOVE YOU BECAUSE YOU'RE CLEAR, CLEAR, CLEAR...)
como la planta de mis pies (LIKE THE SOLES OF MY FEET)
como el amor después de hecho (LIKE LOVE AFTER MAKING IT)
("Para Obtener Un Si" - Fijacion Oral)
-------------------
yo seré tus deseos hechos piernas (I WILL BE YOUR WISHES TURNED INTO LEGS)
una idea recurrente de la fascinación (A RECURRING IDEA OF FASCINATION)
("Escondite Ingles" - Fijacion Oral)
-------------------

I think that may be a tad too mature, not overtly, but in my opinion I'd stick to something that was designed with that demographic in mind like the Cheetah Girls, or something along those lines.

In general a 6 year old won't understand innuendo or bad language anyway.

You know your child better than anyone else. You have to make that decision on your own. I know that none of my children would have listened to that music with me at that age. Now they are older and if they chose to listen to it, ok.

No,but it is only appropriate if you allow your six year old to watch it.You should know what is and what isn't appropriate for your child to watch it.They only watch things that you allow them to watch.
