the snake was black with light green stripes along its body, and was only about a foot and a half long, and it was kind of stocky-it wasn't skinny, it was very thick. it didn't strike, but it did come to attack me.

Well, you do know that it's very unlikely you saw a real species. I do that sometimes, I'll see a bird and think "green jay" in my dream and it's sort of one, but not really.
Anyway, here are a few photos: a Puget Sound garter snake, and a lined snake. Sounds most like a garter.

If you dream of a snake alone and feel threatened by it, it shows that you have a bad enemy that's working against you, its also a warning against bodily harm from the enemy. To dream of many snakes is the foreboding of much bad luck in love or business. They say that you need to kill the snake in your dream to over come it. I use to dream of snakes all in my bed non top for the last 2 weeks. Haven't killed one yet though.

The snake isn't important. When you dream about snakes it means that you are resisting change. There is something new trying to begin, and you're not letting it.

I always heard if you dream of snakes ,you have enemies, unless you dream you kill the snake then all is fine --- so I hope you killed it.
