Marvel Mystery Oil is a petroleum based lubricating oil with detergent additives. When added to crankcase oil it can free sticky lifters and loosen up varnish and sludge. Modern motor oils already have detergents in them which help to prevent varnish and sludge build-up. So as a preventive measure, I don't think it is necessary. Just use good quality motor oil and change it regularly. Marvel Mystery Oil can also be added to the gas tank to loosen up sticky valves and prevent varnish build-up in your fuel system.... with the quality of gasoline available right now, there may be some benefit to this. What I'm saying is you can add it to the oil or gas, depending on what your goal is. You can also use it as a general purpose lubricant on door hinges and and air tools and so forth... and it can be used to prolong the life of gasoline during periods of storage since it floats on top of gasoline and provides a sealing barrier which prevents the solvents and hydrocarbons in the gas from evaporating ....or you can use it as a penetrating oil to free up rusty bolts and it makes a good adhesive remover.

We just did an oil change on a 2004 E55 with 120K miles on it. We used Mobil 1. We also added MMO to the gas in accordance with the printed directions. Before we did this, my son was getting 14.5 mpg. Afterwards, he was getting 17 mpg. The valve train must have been all gummed up and there was likely a lot of carbon build up in the pistons. It seems MMO cleaned out those problems. We will likely use MMO every other oil change and we will added it to gas once 2-3 times per year. It's not any more expensive than Mobil 1 and it adds $0.17 per gallon for fuel costs.

Either!!!
WHEN ADDED TO GASOLINE MARVEL MYSTERY OIL:
Cleans and lubricates fuel injectors and carburetors
Improves gasoline mileage
Reduces and prevents varnish and gum build-up
Extends spark plug life
Safe for catalytic converters and oxygen sensors
WHEN ADDED TO MOTOR OIL:
Prevents valve sticking and clatter
Fortifies properties of engine oil, prevents breakdown caused by extreme temperatures
Promotes easier cold weather starts
Reduces and prevents acid and sludge formation
Marvel Mystery oil is the world's fastest penetrating oil. Designed to free rusted nuts and bolts. Penetrates the closest of tolerances between metal surfaces and leaves a non-corrosive film of lubrication. Can be used as a fuel additive. MMO is great for the home, shop, boat, auto or farm equipment. Marvel Mystery Oil does contain petroleum distillates, is extremely flamable and is extremely poisonous.

When I used to work in a service station back in the 60's MMO was the only product that was out there before Slick 50, Lube One, etc and we used it on all the cars we serviced. I have been using it in my oil changes and occasional gas fill ups in all my car since then and for over 49 years never have had any problems with my vehicles. I now work in an auto parts store and when asked which additive I use I always recommend MMO to anyone who want to keep their vehicle running in tip top shape.

Generally, there is no magic in a bottle, but as to your question about MMO, you can add to your gas and oil, but be sure to read the instructions about usage. If you add it to your oil, be careful, and you should change the oil very soon after adding. Beware of wild claims from chemical companies however 'beneficial' the product sounds. Good Luck!

This is from first hand knowledge. My brother has an old tractor that is supposed to run on leaded gasoline that you can't buy anymore, his tractor mechanic told him to use marvel mystery oil in the gasoline to take the place of the missing lead additive. For you younger people lead was an additive that lubricated the valves. So guess what the tractor motor is shot and guess who gets to fix it. hint hint. I would urge caution at the least.

I have had my Yr.2002 Ford F-150 V6 for 152,532 miles as of 4/25/2015. I have used one quart MMO to 6 quarts of Castoil 10-W30 every oil change and 8 ounces of MMO at every gas fill up, since I have had the truck. the engine has not had any problems. The truck has had problems, its computer has had many problems. I first learn about MMO from a U.S.C..G.Master Chief that, said he used MMO on U.S.C.G. piston engines. For running Kalvenator 2800-99W with a rationed MMO with aircraft engine oil! These engines were on U.S.C.G. Convair C-131A Search & Rescue Aircraft. Many people has witnessed these aircraft delivering pumps to sinking ships. People have witnessed rafts being delivered to sinking ships. as a flight engineer I depended on good operating engines on these aircraft.
My main question is should I use MMO on a new 2015 Ford Fusion as I have on my Yr.2002 Ford F-150 V6? I would like to hear any thoughts of the subject!

To the first answerer..... marvel mystery oil is a light oil..... gas is a very very light oil in itself.... it doesn't "float on top" of the gas, it mixes just fine.... and it contains stoddard solvent.
It does for a short while stabilize it (but do not rely on it to do so!!)
It does lube the carb, fuel pump, and cylinder bores /valve stems and upper piston rings..., it also cleans (not instantly.....) but after a while it will clean and continue to keep it clean...
It has kept some problem carbs I had on engines with sticky floats from sticking and pouring gas everywhere....
In the oil it will clean, and free lifters (marvel mystery oil is not transmission fluid....) etc.... but I would not recommend doing this... maybe in a junker... maybe.
I have used MMO alot and swear by it in the gas.. and after looking at my combustion chambers after using it.... it does do a good job...
Its also good (not to be used in place of 2 cycle oil) in 2 cycle oil/gas mix at maybe a quarter ounce to a gallon.
It will improve gas mileage a little but not enough to notice...., if over used (if you use too much at one time) it will hurt gas mileage..
and it doesn't hurt catylitic convertors. May turn your spark plugs red.... but doesn't hurt them either.
It does not take place of lead in leaded gas.....
