I am not a liberal, more of a moderate and am an Independent voter. I'm really looking for someone to convince me I should even consider voting Republican, off the top of my head:
*Newt Gingrich was revealed to have a girlfriend on the AD commitee - another self-righteous neo-con exposed
*Bob Livingston was set to succeed Gingrich but resigned after admitting extramarital affairs
*Now the whole Foley mess - yes, the Repubs are responsible, they are the ones in control right now, it's their mess to clean up
*Tom Delay indicted
*Jack Abramoff
*George Allen and his macaca debacle
*Immigration is a frigging mess with no viable answers yet
*Iraq, Iraq, Iraq
*etc etc

It just bugs me that the Repubs claim to be the "moral values" Party and clearly are not. No, I don't think Dems are squeaky clean. I just am disgusted by the whole Repub attitude of "we're the moral yardstick." That notion has been destroyed. As of right now the Dems have my vote. Convince me otherwise.

Retired? You are wrong. If my mind was made up I wouldn't have bothered asking the question. I already stated I'm aware the Dems aren't squeaky clean. But then again, they've never claimed to be above reproach when it comes to moral values - that's a Repub thing. The hypocrisy is appalling. But by your sarcarstic and self-righteous answer you may have single handedly convinced me to indeed vote Dem this time around. Thanks for the input ;).

What I am more disgusted with is that people are trying to give Republicans EXCUSES or REASONS as to why this is happening. Retired even stated that at least he did not have sex with the pages. If sexually accosting them wasn't bad enough! THEY WERE UNDERAGE!!!
With all of the scandals happening in the Republican party, it has made me turn even farther away from their party. I was a Dem to begin with, but I respected what other people had to say. All of this just makes me cringe and want to run as far away from them. Being Republican isn't the problem, trying to make excuses or lying is what is bringing them down. More and more they seem like the party of liars and deceivers.

It develop into the way Clinton were given busted with the intern and were given off scot-free without ramifications to his own, political, or professional existence that has brought about those closeted Republicans to commence behaving badly. that's component to a lengthy and sinister custom of wily, sneaky democrats tricking undesirable, properly-meaning republicans into doing the incorrect challenge. Like even as all of them suggested for all those years how huge and undesirable and armed-to-the-teeth previous Saddamn develop into and tricked undesirable W into invading Iraq and getting stuck with the quagmire and the blame. If those democrats don't have suggested those issues, the troops might want to be homestead through now...... .......or some thing.

Politicans, Republicans and Democrats will do whatever is necessary to hold on to POWER and that means lie, cheat, steal, and spin. They are experts at crisis control and can turn almost any negative into a positive because of the POWER they have. Politicans are addicted to power and like a drug addict they will do just about anything to get/keep it. But all the problems you talk about including power hungry politicans can be solved by doing two things: Cut the size of the US Govt. by 50% and have strict term limits: 2 terms per congressperson and that's it!!!

well first off like to point out the Republicans do clean house after a scandal. they ask their menbers to resign or step down when their fingers are caught in the cookie jar. if charges are brought againtist Mr. Foley then sure that Republicans will not interfere with justice. if you like a well written article about the politcs of today please read this link.

Though you claim to want to be convinced, it is obvious that you have made up your mind. So, trying to change your mind is a waste of time.

My personal opinion is that indeed Repubican citizens do indeed have a strong morality. Our elected officials do not share that morality; they only say the words to get moral Republicans to vote for them.

Foley did not, as far as we know, have sex with that page, WHO WAS 18 YEARS OLD WHEN THE MESSAGES WERE SENT.

The Dems, when they had power, did not remove Studds, after he raped two 17 year old pages, and gave him a standing ovation when he returned to the floor.

Mel Reynolds had sex with a 16 year old girl, and after he was sentenced to prison, BILL CLINTON PARDONED HIM.

Barney Franks claimed he didn't know a gay prostitution ring was operating out of his house.

If you want slime like that, instead of Republicans who instantly tossed Foley out, even though there was no evidence he had sex with the page, go ahead, who cares?

And don't forget that when Bush came into office, we had the largest surplus in our history. And now we have the largest deficit in history. Republicans will say and do anything to stay in office -- except take responsibility for their illegal and immoral actions.

The Republicans have set the bar for the moral values that they are known for.

As you know, people aren't perfect and they make mistakes. And when they do, they do the right thing and resign and apologize
