Are the Yankees cursed?

2001 - Lost the World Series on a bloop single
2002 - Lost the ALDS in four games to the Angels
2003 - Lost the World Series to the Marlins (the Marlins?!?)
2004 - Blew a 3-0 lead in the ALCS to their hated rivals, Boston
2005 - Again lost the ALDS to the Angels
2006 - AGAIN lost the ALDS... this time to the Tigers!

Now, some of you might say, "What are you talking about? They just won back in 2000!" Yeah they did. But six seasons without a World Series win in New York is like an eternity. With the kind of lineups that they've had over the past couple years, how in the world they're going through a six-year championship drought is beyond me. Who else thinks that this is the start of a Yankees curse, like the Curse of the Bambino? I mean, come on. They assemble one of the greatest lineups ever seen and lose in the first round? How do you explain it?

By the way, don't say, "Oh, you're just an angry Sox fan!" I'm not a Sox fan at all, I'm a fan of another city who's totally mystified that the Yankees haven't won AT LEAST three of the last six World Series.

I hope most baseball fans understand why this is obviously a bigger situation for the Yankees than it would be if the Phillies or the Brewers went that long without winning a World Series.

The Yankees won in the late 90s on homegrown talent, pitching, and defense. Then they went back to buying players. You know how many of the '06 Yankees were on the '01 team? Four: Bernie, Derek, Mo, and Posada. Most of the rest are hired guns. Their best pitcher is in his 2nd year and is paid the least.

If they want to win again, the Yanks need to get back to basics: draft and grow young talent, then sign the right free agents, not just buy whatever all-star is available.

How can they be cursed ???

Owner has more money than God and can buy any player he wants. Looks like they need pitching not more sluggers.
Any other team would love to have been in playoffs in the last six years.
Maybe you should switch and cheer for the Jays !
Team that Will knock out the Yanks next year.
Try being a Leafs Fan !

Curses are what newspapers write about. No team is cursed, the Red Sox nor the Cubs. Nor are the Yankees cursed, they just can't win in October because they lack "lights-out" pitching.

Their only curse is having George Steinbrenner micromanage the team.

It has been almost 3 years since they've been to the World Series - why, there are only 24 other teams that have gone longer than that without a pennant. My heart bleeds for them.

Simply put, they do not and have not had the necessary pitching to carry them in post season. They have a powerful lineup, but they NEED some pitching from others than Johnson and Mussina, both of whom have seen better days.

Chow!!
