A life sentence means different things depending on the wording of the judges order. Life without the possibility of parole means you stay until you die, 25 to life means 25 minimum and life depends on the state you live in, 7 years can be a sentence but it sounds like you are confusing that with the amount of time before you can be declared dead if you disappear. If you are serving a two year sentence and you die in prison it doesn't mean you served a life sentence it just means you died while in prison. I apologize for all the big words.

Wouldn't a life sentence mean it's for life? I think the 7 or 25 years you're stating would mean the time that the sentence needs to be served before they can appeal or anything of that sort?

By life sentence they don't mean until your dead its just a number of years. Otherwise a person couldn't get sentenced to "two consecutive life sentences" right?

Hmmm, good question. At first you would think that, yes. But since you have come back and are still technically living your "one" life, you should continue fulfilling your obligation to society.

Just my thought.
