39.245p

Agreed it is £39.25 to the nearest penny rounded up - assuming of course that you are talking about 17.5% VAT.......there are other vat % for certain types of supplies.

What confuses me is how you can have a price of 33.4p that you want to calculate VAT on in the first place!

33.4p +vat =33.4p +(17.5% of 33.4p) = 33.4p+5.845p
= 39.25 p (approximately)

here is a way to calculate vat when the calculator is not available

say you want the vat on £100

10% of £100 =£10 (divide by 10)
5% of £100 =£5 (half the above)
2.5%of £100 =£2.50 (half again)

add the total =£(10+5+2.50) =£17.5

i hope that this helps

VAT is currently rated at 17.5% so you want 17.5% of £33.40 (if you 33.4p is £33.40) which is £5.845 bring the total to £39.245 or £39.25 rounded up or £39.24 rounded down.

If you really did mean 33.4 p then you need 17.5% of 33.4 p whic is 5.845 p bringing the total to 39.245 p. Since we don't have 1/2p
the cash total would be 39 p.

Assuming you're talking about 17.5% VAT then

£39.25

(33.4 * 1.175)

2006-10-07 13:51:30 · answer #5 · answered by mark 7 · 0 0

33.4/100 = 0.334
0.334*17.5 = 5.845

33.4+5.845 = 39.245

Therefore 33.4 + Vat = £39.25

Hopefuly its easy to see how it is calculated.

others beat me to it, but yup, 33.4 x 117.5, then divided by 100 is 39.245p, which in the real world wouldn't be rounded up to 39.25p, as this is still an unusable figure, it would be rounded down to 39p
