You have to become a 911 trained dispatcher. You have to train like an EMT to be able to give medical help over the phone , such as CPR or how to contol bleeding. Its not easy but with time it becomes more routine. You also have guide cards in front of you to help with your medical instructions to the people on the phones.

It is best to go to the police agency in the town/city in which you would like to work as a dispatcher and inquire there about qualifications. The job of dispatcher can vary from region to region in the U.S. Large city vs. small town, State agency vs. local agency. Decide what you dream of doing and then go to the agency that offers that kind of work.

You should contact your city employment office where you live, they can give you the entire career plan. It is very stressful, but the reward is great. You do need to know the legal codes in your area and the radio code numbers for reporting to the officer; most importantly you must have strength of character, able to multitask under great pressure and posses good common sense.
