being pledged to another person in a romantic/sexual relationship is a human right. (see http://www.pinkuk.com/community/newsArticle.asp?nid=402&month=Jun&year=2006 ) and should be fought for as much as any other human right (see http://www.amnesty.org/ )

EDIT: hey, cindy123 -

eve was created from one of adams ribs - whats the churches stance on self mutilation or ritual sacrifice?

Adam and Eve were biologically related, what's the churches veiw on incest?

if adam and eve DID produce offsring: The entire human race - as inbreeding leads to genetic illness and madness - is it the church's veiw that the human race is mad?

well many people argue that it is against the will of god. but if you think logically, God has no place in determining if 2 gay people should be married. seperation of church and state is a big factor. a person can have the most conviencing argument in court why god would hate SSM but as a judge you have to follow the law. seperation of church and state completely voids the person's argument. it carries no weight in court.

1. Homosexuality is not natural, much like eyeglasses, polyester, and birth control are not natural.
2. Heterosexual marriages are valid because they produce children. Infertile couples and old people cannot get legally married because the world needs more children.
3. Obviously gay parents will raise gay children because straight parents only raise straight children.
4. Straight marriage will be less meaningful, since Britney Spears's 55-hour just-for-fun marriage was meaningful.
5. Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and it hasn't changed at all: women are property, Blacks can't marry Whites, and divorce is illegal.
6. Gay marriage should be decided by the people, not the courts, because the majority-elected legislatures, not courts, have historically protected the rights of minorities.
7. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are always imposed on the entire country. That's why we only have one religion in America.
8. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people makes you tall.
9. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage license.
10. Children can never succeed without both male and female role models at home. That's why single parents are forbidden to raise children.
11. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society. Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and we could never adapt to new social norms because we haven't adapted to cars or longer lifespans.
12. Civil unions, providing most of the same benefits as marriage with a different name are better, because a "separate but equal" institution is always constitutional. Separate schools for African-Americans worked just as well as separate marriages will for gays & lesbians.

Legally speaking, marriage gives two people the official recognition of rights upon each other. (In some countries these benefits are recognized also to not-married couples after some necessary proccess -- I believe in France, for example).

Benefits include inheritance, any money given by the state to married couples, any benefits when taking a loan etc! You can include to benefits that maybe in some countries child adoption applies only to married couples, so you have one more argument!

This means that the person that you chose to have as a partner in life is legally recognized these rights and benefits, that otherwise would not apply. Whom you chose as partner in YOUR life is YOUR own business! So you legalize your rights upon each other by marriage.

Marriage is a legal procedure but also has a religious aspect. So when we come to religious view of wedding, I guess it's everybody's right to stand before their god and feel that their relationship is blessed (or whatever!)

Gay marriage should be allowed because there is no good reason to deny it. Because the church frowns upon it is not a good reason. If the church does not want to perform gay marriages they should have the right not to. Not every one is a member of the church and not everyone believes in or follows the beliefs of the church. If here in the US we have separation of church and state, why should gay marriage be denied for religious or moral reason. Where does morality come from? Is there on body determining moral behavior for the rest of us? If that is true, why are they allowed to do that?

If consenting adults want to engage in a behavior that does not harm anyone, why should we interfere? Who is it really hurting? If two gays marry, that is not going to affect my marriage or how I raise my children because I am responsible for what I teach my children and how I manage my marriage. If adults want to marry the same sex, why stop them?
