This site has helpful and easy to follow videos that show how to knit. It's highly recommended.

There are several websites, some with videos, that you can find on Google (I can't recommend a favorite because I learned to knit when I was ll......) Try your public library for knitting videos and see if they have a copy of Sally Melville's The Knit Stitch.

It is the single best book for beginners I have seen, clearly and profusely illustrated and the projects are classy and grown-up.

Also check around and see if there's a knitting group in your area. A lot of independent yarn stores have 1 or 2 nights a month were people can just drop in, knit and chat.

I taught myself to knit almost 3 years ago. I went to my local craft store (Michaels) and bought a skein of yarn, needles and a learn to knit book. It was great because it had the basic instructions on how to knit. Which you will need to learn how to do the different stiches. Also, you can go to www.lionbrand.com and click on learn to knit and it will give you the same instructions.
On that same website, there are some really great beginner patterns you can start with. Good luck to you and I know you will love it once you start.

The lionbrand site is very good. I also recommend
interweavepress.com

And welcome to the club. I learned to knit when I was 7 and picked it up again when I was in my mid 20's and am now 51 and running out of room to put my yarn stash.
