Pass a lot to open the running game, as opposed to the conventional offensive theory of running to open up the passing game...

Using a short passing game , basically to complement your running game. First downs are plenty , because the defense has to prevent the run and the deep pass. This will leave a "cushion" in the 10 yard range (first down) .If the defense is playing "man on man" , you catch and run . If they are playing a "zone coverage" you catch and sit down (this prevents those vicious hits you see every week). This only works with the proper personnel. Eventually , the defense will creep up to try to protect that "cushion" , then , THAT , opens up the field for the long pass

short passes is one of the main features. Moving the ball 5 yards or so at a time.
