If I got a coupon in my email, and I changed the expiration date via Photoshop, is that illegal?

Would they even care? They are getting my buisness, right?

When was the last time you put the number one on a dollar bill and tried to pass it off as a ten? The legalities aren't spelled out on the bill either, although the name of the deed and its consequences are universally known. My point is clear, I hope: perpetrating a fraud is not only wrong, it makes the perpetrator a thief.

Your question, however, suggests you already knew the answer. One can only hope you posed it to win a bet from a morally-challenged friend, rather than to attempt to justify a serious personal character fault.

If they truly did not "care", they would honor expired coupons. Or they would send them out with no expiration date.
