i use aquasafe in my water and i make sure the temperature is close to what it was before. i also let the water sit before i re-add the fish. my last beta died literally within an hour of the water change. i only had him for 2 weeks and he was fine until i changed the water today. the goldfish that he shares his tank with is fine. i love betas, but something is going on. my parents each have one and they have no problems!

It's never a good idea to mix a betta and a goldfish. They won't fight, but sometimes the goldfish is attracted to the colorful fins of the betta and he'll do a little nipping. This stress out the Betta along with the dirty water - Goldfish are very dirty! Betta's are pretty clean.

Also when changing the water it is never a good idea to change all the water. There is bacteria in the water that fish need to survive. It's good for them. It starts to grow when they are first introduced to the water or of you've used a chemical that helps the bacteria grow.

When you change all the water and replace it with complete new water - the bacteria is all gone. It's like thin air for fish & it stressed them out badly, Betta's are usually pretty hardy fish - but if your having problems I recommend only changing 1/2 the water every two weeks. It will look cloudy at first, but it will settle and look clear in an hour or so.

It's hard to think dirty water is good for fish - but it really is. They need the bacteria to live a healthy life.

Don't overfeed these guys. They only need 3 of those little pellets a day. Once a day feeding is fine & recommended. This is really all they need. Feeding them more will produce more ammonia and make the tank dirtier faster. Flakes are dirty, so I reccommend the tiny betta pellets.

Just buy a nice little tank for your guy (2 gallons or more) and he'll be very happy!

(They can live in smaller tanks, but I recommend 2 gallons or more)

maximum Betas are fairly uncomplicated to guard yet can die if each and every little thing isn't in basic terms appropriate. What you may due in case you certainly need it to stay without problems is here; Get a 10 gallon tank and "beta dividers", the varieties with wholes in them. positioned one divider in putting apart the tank with a a million:3 ratio. Then on the smaller of the standards put in the water clear out. you do no longer choose a brilliant useful one the two, basically one designed for a 10 gallon tank. You try this because of the fact maximum betas certainly want the filtration device yet are tormented by shifting water. Then on the part housing the beta put in the fort (or maybe if you have got) and a few flowers that it may nibble on. basically purchase beta fish foodstuff and feed it as directed on the packaging. besides the indisputable fact which you will watch the fish because it eats. you do no longer prefer to put in lots foodstuff that any (<2%) makes it to the backside. in case you like the tank to stay sparkling without risking killing the beta from marvel (cleansing the tank shocks the fish) purchase a small scavenger fish i.e. algae eaters. basically determine the algae eater does not die. yet do no longer put in "competing" fish, in case you certainly need it to have the main suitable risk of staying alive. solid success! Mine have been named Fantasio (truly tremendously white and pink), then Dr Jeykll (Deep blue) and Mr Hyde (pink). Fantasio lived for about 3 and a a million/2 years. Mr Hyde lived approximately 2 years. And Dr Jeykll lived slightly decrease than 3.

use bottle spring water.. most tap water has chloramine (ammonia and chlorine). even tho aquasafe can take that out, sometimes ammonia is a little to high for it..so the chlorine comes right out, but the ammonia is still there.. some fish are stronger and hardier than other..like your goldfish!!! spring water has a little higher ph , which both fish like.. still do the temp. thing and just add a few drops of aquasafe to the spring water for the slime coat protection..most all the fish that come out of florida are held in high ph well water.. then shipped out the all other states..

Assuming that you bought the betas serially, and not at the same time [they would fight and kill each other], I suspect the goldfish killed them. Not deliberately. Goldfish are dirty, slimy fish. They can live in really bad conditions without much difficulty at all. I suspect the goldfish slime got into the beta gills and suffocated them. I never mix goldfish with any tropical fish. Sorry to hear about it.

They might have been old when you purchased them. You should ask the store how old the betas are before purchase. You may also want to visit ( if you havent already) a store that specializes in fish. They could give you pointers on keeping your betas happy and healthy!!

You can have any number of bettas, but the condition is there should be only one male. You can have any number of females.
Apart from that bettas are considered to be the toughest of the fishes. They can survive in dirtiest and unoxygenated waters.
Next time u buy them make sure that there is only one male.
