My mother was the screamer when I was a kid. Dad would just go work in his spot in the basement. So us kids(7 of us) learned to just shut up and go find something out of her hair to do....not to keep the argument going. Times have changed a lot though. We, as a society, have learned to suppress our anger until it is explosive and unmanageable. Takes two sides to argue. If he truly is scary, then go somewhere with your kids (friend, relative, church, police) and find help. If you're arguing too and blaming just him to save face, then stop your side now. You have a choice, either fix it, or change it.

Leave daddy. He shouldn't be screaming and cursing at you.

I would find a way to leave him and set a good strong example for my child.
If you don't he or she will grow up to be either the screamer or the doormat.
Not good either way.
