i reinstalled windows xp, now i have no sound. my audio driver cannot be detected by windows and in the device manager i see no multimedia audio controller. my sounds were running perfectly before this. problem is i don't also know what sound card i have

If you have an embedded audio chip on your motherboard, then reload the driver from your motherboard CD.
If you have a card, or don't have the motherboard CD, take your case off and look for a serial number on the board or the card, then go-ogle the number, and search for the drivers.
