I have had a terrible side effect from Effexor for about 16 days now - complete numbness in the left side of my head, face and neck. Have found quite a bit of mentions of this side effect on the Internet. Docor has little to nothing to say about it except "I guess you just have to wait until the drug is totally out of your system...not sure how long that will take." Half-life of Effexor XR is 9 days so I suppose I still have more time to wait til it's completely out of my sytem. This is maddening, scary, VERY upsetting. And I am climbing the walls. Does anyone know of ANY WAY to rush this process along???? Someone recommended taking Niacin. I am very desparate for this to go way.

I suggest you go see another doctor. And quickly. Withdrawal effects from Effexor are notorious, and it is not for this community to try and help you. Call any of your doctors that you like, whether they're eye doctors or urologists or gynecologists or neurologists, and tell them you need help, and a quick referral.

Go to your doctor and tell him/her that you really need to get off of this drug. You need to be weaned off not suddenly stop. This is dangerous if you stop all of a sudden because that can cause more problems. You need to be under a doctor's care with this drug so I wouldn't waste any time and call him/her. If you can't get in touch with him/her go to the emergency room and tell them what is going on. They'll know what to do and help you.

Good answer browneyed.
