Absolutely change the transmission filter and pan gasket. The transmission filter is one of the most over looked things on a car.And shops are trying to sell a flush. but putting all new fluid in the tranny is stupid if your gonna run it through a restricted filter. That'll bring some life out of the transmission and may take some of the sluggish feeling out of it. Also change the plugs and wires. And get the timing checked. If the timing is retarded too much it will make the car very sluggish also. And also definitely change the fuel filter!
And of course vacuum leaks will cause sluggishness and hesitation. So get the old vacuum lines replaced!
Change the PVC valve and the crankcase filter located in your air cleaner. It's where the hose connects to the side of your air cleaner. These fixes should give you some new life from your engine and tranny. If these items have been neglected for along time there should be a noticeable improvement in performance.

KISS...no not literally.
Keep it simple
Check the air pressure in the tires, check the air filter, fuel filter, check the alignment. Make sure that there aren't any fuel leaks, vacuum leaks, loose spark plugs etc.
Next if you haven't had the car for long, do a basic tune up, plugs wires, filters (listed above), change the engine oil and filter(little effect), check the transmission fluid and condition, change if it smells burnt or looks burnt (brown..should look reddish).
As far as air intakes, turbos etc...
You have an older car with a lot of miles on it, there are no quick, cheap overnight fixes, add-ons, bolt-ons, "pour it in the engine potions" to make you car run any better other than keeping up with the tune up and maintenance schedule.

well, you've got a grandmother car so you're not gonna find much stuff to build power with. If there's a been a decrease in power, check your air filter for blockage and spark plugs that might need replacing.
Exhaust can be restrictive. Cut the muffler off and you might get a slight increase in power.

I realize this sounds absolutely nuts but if you go to this site www.condensator.com you will find a fairly simple solution to help with power and gas mileage. I was a disbeliever until I saw it work for myself. It recirculates exhaust gases from valve covers back to intake. Also, as the other people have suggested, change air filter, spark plugs and wires and do some maintance. hope this helps

Why not try doing and engine and transmission flush.
Then start using synthetic oil in both your engine and tranny.
You`ll find that this on it`s own can help to give it back some of it`s old punch...
After that you can try an intake kit a larger exhaust all these things should not cost much @ all

well it has alot of miles on the engine, I would try tuneing it up, and change the air and fuel filters. Go with a higher octaine gasoline. If this doesn't help, the engine might need rebuilding. good luck
