I have an Avanti 2.2 cubic foot deep freeze (not self defrosting),that is only one year old.It was working great. We ate all the food out of it so i figured i would unplug it and open it up and let it defost itself and give it a breather.Well it sat unplugged for about 4 months, then today i turned it on and it is not cooling.I can hear the compressor humming and its very hot to the touch, but it is not cooling.

I noticed there is one rubber hose over a copper line going to the coils that is very rusty(when i touched it rust dust fell on me.Is it possible in that short amount of time that could have rusted through? Why would they have put that one stupid hose on there?

If it has a fan unplug it and make sure there is nothing blocking fan. Make sure there is no dirt on coils if they are exposed. Let it run for 1hr and check temp if it doesn't come down you may need to call repairman

Unplug it then plug it back in to make sure the compressor isn't seized. If it's just humming as in buzzing, it may not be working. An electrical hum and an operating hum sound distinctly different but you have to know what you're listening to. But if you're expecting instant cold, that won't happen either. I either need to be there or get a better description. Have somebody that knows what they're doing and lives locally come and check it out.
These types of freezers sometimes have the coolant circulating in the walls for both the evaporating and condensing lines. In those models it could be cooling fine but you may not know for a few hours.
In short.....get somebody that knows about these types of things in there for a look-see before you fry yourself or your house. It sounds to me like you're in over your head.

Make sure the fan by the compressor is running. Thats it, If the compressor and fan are running, It will cool off. No more real parts on them cept the stat. If its real hot inside the freezer from being off. It will take several hours to remove the heat

move it away from the wall and clean all the dust that you find off the coils in the back then plug it in and leave the door closed for at least 24 hrs
