A D&C is not necessary after a miscarriage. The only time it becomes necessary is if the woman did not pass all of the products of conception or placental tissue. If the doctor did not perform a D&C after your miscarriage, it was because you passed everything and did not require one. Not having one would not affect your chances of conceiving in the future. There are other things that could cause you to have trouble conceiving, those being endometriosis and scar tissue. Did you have a C-section with your other children? Endometriosis is fairly common in women of child-bearing years. It is a condition where the lining of your uterus also lines the outside of your uterus. Since this is on the outside, it cannot shed like the lining inside does and turns to scar tissue which can prevent pregnancy from occurring. Talk to your doctor about this and see if a laparoscopy to remove potential scar tissue would increase your chances of getting pregnant.
Good Luck!

Everyday. The knowledge and wisdom I've gained from the past has made me a humble person. That will always affect my future. If I hadn't been ill as a young adult or had the people around me that I did, I think I would be just another young college student. I would care about clothes and I wouldn't care about your feelings. I would go with the crowd and I would never have met the small group of friends that I'm still visiting today.

It's not the D&C, but the miscarriage itself that will affect future pregnancies. I would speak to a doctor ASAP and find out what your next plan of action should be and what options you have. Good luck.

One of the most over looked problems in conception is having a thyroid problem, whether it is hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism.
Ask your doctor to do a simple blood test to check your thyroid. If you have a thyroid problem, it alone can cause miscarriages.

no you do not always need a d&c following a miscarriage. this has nothing to do with your ability to conceive now. if it has taken more than one year of trying then see your infertility specialist
