if you are retireing to the phills then im guessing you will have some form of income from usa (s.s. , pension, ect.) as long as you will get 600$ or more per month you will be able to live there no problem. since you are single you will have to be on a tourist visa which you can extend up to 1 year (will cost about 300$ total for staying 1 year) after which you will have to leave the country for at least 1 day and then return and start the process all over. ok for starters here are some prices for renting, manila you can rent an apartment from 100$ - 500$ (5k - 25k php)per month depending on area outside manila your looking at about 100-200$ (5k - 10k php)per month for a decent apartment. if you really want to live in a nipa hut then it sounds like you want some land and want to live in the country. nipa huts are cheap to build (anywhere from 500 to 1000$) ok now for the bad part, there are 2 laws in the philippines that are 1) no forgiener can own property (you can lease it for up to 99 years) 2) no forgiener can own more than 40% of a business (which only a fool would invest 100% of the capitol and only be able to control 40% of the business). since you are looking for a filipina wife your advantage would be after you get married you can have her apply for your 13a visa (permanat resident). which would allow you to stay in the country , this runs about 350 - 1200$ depending on if you do it yourself (which i recomend) or if you hire a lawyer and have them do it. soposedly a lawyer can get it faster but thats not true, and average wait time is from 1 month up to about a year, if you keep following up on your paperwork it shouldnt take more than a month. check philipines imigration website for instructions how to get a 13a visa and medical exams. all medical exam checks for is contagious diseases. then after you are married you can buy land and build a house in your wifes name. (if your wife dies before you do the land and house will be aired to next of kin, child, or family member,NOT YOU as you will never own your house or land there) also you can start an internet cafe for 1 reason only, to give you something to do all day and thats it. you are not going to make very much money at it if any after the bills are paid. but since you will have a pension it doesnt matter anyway. for places to live it really depneds on what kind of terain you like. baguio is north of manila and is in the mountians which would be nice to live, if you like beaches you could live in cebu or about anywhere in visayas region. i would probly stay away from mindanao as it is not a good location for foriegners. anywhere on luzon or visayas would be good. as far as looking for a wife take your time finding one and make sure it is real. also when meeting women there dont fall for the hardship story as everyone in the philippines has a hardship story, i know it sounds bad but after you live there for awhile you wil understand. there are alot of scammers there and all they see is dollar signs, so make sure your 100% positive about the woman you choose, there are some really good women there you just have to find them. also you must have alot of patients with thier culture, its virtually backwards to american culture and you will have alot of differances with a filipina wife in regards to culture. remember you will marry HER not her family so it will not be your responceabilty to support her family. hope this helps and good luck

I seriously doubt you'd be able to rent out a nepa house to live in.
What would be a more likely scenerio would be to lease some farmland and build a nepa house. They are very inexpensive to build ($500-$1000) will build a very nice one. You can negoitiate a lease for anything from 1 year to 25 years. I would suggest living in a pension house or at a local resort for awile until you meet some of the locals and get connected with the right people. Antique province in Iloilo comes to mind as a place to start.
The problem is that most people that live in the provinces (country) are farmers and have little money for frivilous things like the internet. You may stand a chance of achieving your dream and having both a rural house and an internet cafe if you built the internet cafe near a resort. I would wait until you found a good wife before opening an internet cafe or any other business here.

Sunshine International is a well known way to meet ladies from the Philippines. The Internet cafe makes communication much cheaper. It used to be you had to send letters which would take three weeks to get there or phone. International phone calls are very expensive. Be sure to shop around for the best rate. Now you have Internet cafes with web cams for instant cheap communications. As with all women and men, you have good ones and bad ones. That said, an ordinary, or ugly guy can get a very beautiful girl in the Philippines. Most girls that look that good in America would not talk to the average man.
Good luck.

There are already too many Net cafes in the Philippines, and a non Filipino citizen cannot own anything there. Anything you try to build or own will have to be in your wifes name because as i said you CANNOT own it.
There are many places that you can pick to call home, davao and cebu are good examples. To find a FIlipino wife however is tricky, is this search about wanting to actually find someone to love or just so you can stay in the country? Remember that just like in any other country the Philippines has its share of bad eggs. Be careful when you meet someone - in person or online. Best bet is by meeting someone through a friend.

ive been to philippines five times and a good place to retire is Angeles City.Because it is right there in the middle of the Philippines and you have a good access to neighboring towns and cities like Subic Bay, Baguio, Manila,Tarlac and they are all short driving distance.Angeles City has a good night life lots of women.good shopping malls lots of bars also former base clark air base.for a home you can get them cheap house and lot $2000.and you might want air-con house cause gets real hot during the summer.and lots of beautiful women dont get married quick look around have some fun first then get a wife.when its time to get married look for honest women that will take care of you and that you can trust dont get a women that will spend all your money.so ANGELES CITY IS THE PLACE TO RETIRE.thats where i will retire in five years

Some says that it is bad to live for retirement in Mindanao, crazy indeed when in fact, it is the safest to live for the Americans. In our Philippine History, our Muslim brothers prefer to be with USA as a colony and they still love the Americans up to now. The best places to stay are the Northern part such as Cagayan de Oro, Surigao or Butuan Cities.

I bought a living place wherever I worked more than a year or stayed in a hotel. Reason being once I had a brawl with the landlord and I promised myself never to live in a rented house thereafter.

There are so many good places to choose from....Dumgette (spelling?), Davao, Cedu. I prefer Angeles City, but that will put a hinder on finding a wife as its full of "bar girls" just waiting for someone like you (no offense meant (to either you or the girls)). I agree about the "Cafe", they are a dime a dozen in the Phils..unless you live in an area that doesn't have one (does that exist?) it will not be very busy....unless you get your own generator for the numerous "brown outs" they seem to have there. Good Luck.
PS: In my opinion, you will never find a more devoted caring loving wife than a filipina....as long as its the "right" filipina.
