First, cell is the basic unit of life, that is, cells make up tissues, tissues to organs, organs to body. And cells have different organelles inside to carry out specific functions to sustain a cell's life. There are 2 kinds of cells, prokaryotes and eukaryotes.
Prokaryotes are "simple cells;" these cells lack a nucleus, which is where genetic materials are held. Since there's no nucleus, the genetic materials (DNA) just hang around in the cytoplasm, at a spot called nucleoid. Prokaryotic cells also have ribosomes, and of course the cytoplasm, the gel-like substance inside the cells. Examples are bacteria, which are single-cell organisms, and the fungus yeast.
Eukaryotic cells are "true cells;" these have membrane-bound organelles such as the power house Mitochondria, the processing center Golgi Apparatus, the protein synthesis factory Endoplasmic Reticulum, and most importantly, the membrane-bound, porous nucleus that contains DNA and allow messenger RNA to travel to the cytoplasm where they are translated into proteins. Examples are human cells, animal cells, plant cells. Btw, plant cells have cell wall which make them so rigid and vacuoles that hold water so the plants will be plump. Animal cells do not have cell walls, that's why we are able to move and have lots of flexibility with our bodies. Plant cells also have chloroplasts, which are like the power house mitochondria, but chlorplasts are to carry out photosynthesis for the plants to use sunlight to make their own foods.
Ok, that 's quite a lot of information. If you need further help, you can go to wikipedia.org and type in cell, or the other organelles. It'll give you lots of info.

A cell is a single unit or compartment, enclosed by a border, wall or membrane. As a term, cell has become a general-purpose metaphor for building blocks which serve to compose larger structures. Cells make up all forms of life.
In science:
* Cell (biology), the smallest metabolically-functional unit of life; see List of topics in cell biology
* Cell (journal), a bi-monthly peer-reviewed scientific journal related to biology
* Electrochemical cell, a setup used for creating an electromotive force
* Cell (geometry), in Euclidean geometry, refers to a 3-dimensional facet in a polytope
* A cellular automaton is a mathematical model consisting of a grid of cells whose states are changed according to a set of rules
* A part of the wing of an insect, surrounded by veins. Often important in determination of species

the smallest unit of living matter. anything smaller then that isn't alive, but instead is a compound or a molecule. those are the subunits which make up life, but all cells are living things.
all cells have some sort of membrane separating the inside from the out, and I believe they all contain cytoplasm. (it's the liquid inside a cell) many cells have organelles that carry out jobs much as animal's organs do.. only on a LOT smaller scale.

If your referring to genetic cells: A cell is the basic building block of all living things. They carry all the hereditary genetic make up and code. Cells also provide the body structure, take nutrients from food eaten and process them into energy, and carry out other specialized functions. Cells have many different parts to them so you may want to look up online for further more detailed description.
