I am wondering if you start counting 28 days from the first day of the period or do you wait til the last day of the period before you count 28 days.

You start counting the first day as the day after your period starts.
For example, you get your period on the October 2nd. You would start counting the 28 days from October 3rd with October 3rd being day one.

Day 1 is the first day of bleeding day 28 should be the day before the next one starts. That's if you have a regular cycle, for me its anywhere between 28 and 35 days!!
