From the point of view of morality, is drinking and driving excusable and forgivable or is doing this absolutely unacceptable and inexcusable? Of course it is illegal, but this question is about morals. Picture someone you know drinking and driving, how can you ever think of them the same again? Note: They need not have killed someone while drinking and driving to be thought of negatively.

With an almost absolute certainty, I think that everyone that has drank, has driven. I don't think it is a question of morality, more of one of stupidity. Of course if someone dies, that is horrible, although not nearly punished highly enough in the court system. Unfortunately, we all do stupid things and in one way or another have to pay the consequences. Remember that to some people, drinking is an actual disease, also when drinking, you lose your ability to make rational decisions for the most part. That is not an excuse, it is simply a point I am making. I do not agree with drinking and driving, but to say it is morally wrong is stretching it a little bit. Until we all realize how stupid it actually is, it will be a problem.

Drinking and driving is a selfish act, and is morally unacceptable, most people have driven after they drink too much and when they do they are risking their own life and the life of others. Your question indicates that you would feel differently towards someone who drinks and drives, Alcoholism is a disease and you would not feel differently if someone drove with a heart condition which is also a disease. When someone does something of this nature they need friends and family who will try to help them not think of them negatively.

It is inexcusable because it is selfishly putting your own self before the safety of others. If a drunk person could only hurt his or herself, I feel it would be a different situation. The minute innocent lives are put at risk is the minute I find it unacceptable. I know many people who do drink and drive. I find their action and attitudes appalling. I see nothing wrong with drinking (as a matter of fact, I do it myself) but it is wrong to risk other's lives.

When I was drinking, I thought it was forgivable because I had a drinking problem and couldn't do anything about it. As a result I drank and drove probably hundreds of times. Now that I'm sober, (in part due to that DUI) I realize that it is ALWAYS the drinkers choice to not drive. And to ignore that deep down knowledge that it's wrong is immoral.

well, personally, i feel to get drunk is a sin, and that, you should never put your life nor anyone elses life in danger. there are so many things that people do that can be harmful to THEM, but drinking and driving can be harmful to ANYONE. If my best friend were to do that , i would feel the smae way. it is unaccepteble, and unexcuseable! There is NO REASON why you should drink and drive. You can at least have someon planned to come and pick you up, i don't believe in gettingwasted, but when it does happen you need someone there for you.

It is morally unacceptable to drive if you are not able to properly control the vehicle. It doesn't matter why. The problem with drunk driving is, many people can't tell when the are impaired.

Inexcusable! To take your life into your hands is one thing, to endanger innocent people is another. And, what about how this affects your family and friends???

About 35% of all auto accidents are alcohol related.

Therefore, the drinkers have a better record than the sober team!

Just a thought.
