Or, would the storm of public opinion have us out after some horrible battle, before the job was done. Would the politicians be more concerned with votes than the lives of those under Hitler's rule and wrath?

Would we "cut and run" after video of the Battle of the Buldge was seen on nightly TV? Approximately 600,000 killed and wounded in WWII.....

I think one reason so many Jews died was that people had the same attitude they do now...."If it isn't happening here, it isn't our concern." It took an attack on us to get us involved. There were stories about the final solution, but no action.

Yes, there was media coverage . . .newspaper coverage. Nothing to compare with the video of death and and carnage seen during the last 4 wars.

I believe there was a far greater level of American patriotism in that generation that is decidely missing today. We had enemies back then, and ALL agreed that they were enemies. Socialists, communists, nazis, those who threatened our freedom.

I am not certain how we can recover our sense of patriotism. Hate for America has been propagated intensely since the Democrats lost congress in 1994 and in 2000 it went way beyond reason bordering on a mania. When 911 occurred it seemed we were heading back to a time when "it is my country right or wrong" was the motto, but the Democrats and their propaganda machine has turned it into a hate America political scene. It might take a civil war to bring it back. I had hoped with all of the Democrat loses that they would turn away from the radical left-wing extremists that have taken control of the party, but instead they have gone farther left. Pelosis agenda sounded like something from a communist cold war dictator, not a member of congress. I believe in our country and the people, and I hope they will rise up again this year to show the socialists that they are not accepted in a free country like ours.

Today through propaganda and our public school system the socialists have taught those generations tolerance, which is good in basis but when it is tolerance of those who would destroy your freedoms it is evil.

You are correct that if we were in WWII today we might have lost and the world would be a horrible place. Back then the media supported our country by either biting their tongue for the sake of freedom and consistently pointing out the positives of the effort, today they don't. I really find it sad.

Our country has been corrupted, in politics and in morals. If you read the link below you will see that our enemy is alive and well and has become to some degree successful. If you want to maintain your freedom, you will need to wake up to the enemy within.

Yes. The media was as active in those years and perhaps even more so. Certainly, the major newspapers had enormous readership compared to today. And the Battle of the Bulge was certainly a news event due to the failure of American intelligence to detect the German build-up in the Ardennes.

The heavy casualties at Tarawa were also heavily scrutinized by the media.

And let's be honest...the war in Iraq continues and will continue despite the media coverage.

Ultimately only the will of the American people will determine whether we stay the course or pull the plug.

And let's hope the media continues to tell us what's going on wherever American lives are in danger.

Well I think I see where your going and I say no. Because if you are comparing it to todays wars, it was a totally different world. Back then there was gigantic armies taking over country after country killing millions of people. There hasn't been anything like that since the end of WWII in the Pacific theater.
Besides the atrocities that were committed in both theaters of war would have created an even more powerful response. One reason so many Jews were killed in germany, nobody outside of Germany and Poland really knew what was going on until the end.

If todays left lived back then. Half the USA would speak Japanese and be slaves working in rice paddies, the other half would speak German and kiss Hitler's butt.

Who knows. I would like to think not but politics are different now and the U.S. has a lot more domestic and foreign issues than back then.
