Because after they walk away, you've had time to think and cool down. On the other hand, maybe you've just had the extra time to brew about it and think more clearly.

JUST left!?! It usually takes me between 24 and 72 hours to come up with the wittiest, sharpest retort! By that time, the person has not only left my immediate vicinity but is possibly even several countries away!

here is one for you i made it up months ago and as it is a play on words sort of.
when some one tries one on you just say" hey " just visit the website it will sort if for you, then just say
couldn't give a toss .com and walk off it works everytime
ps depending who you are saying it to change the Toss word to any strength of french required the other people around you will laugh, BYE
