A wind blowing in a direction opposite to the heading of a moving object, thus opposing the object's intended progress; the opposite of a tailwind.

wind that is coming in your face of the direction you are going in

its the wind that is blowing in the opposite direction tothe one in which you are going. therefore it blows against your progress
