In my opinion, the answer to this question is a resounding "NO." Even Wilder's lesser efforts are better than 99% of all directors working today could manage.
He was the best there was.

i don't think so he won a lot of Oscars for his films he seemed to get an award something or other in all his films.

I didn't like his later stuff like Buddy, Buddy as much as his early stuff, which was just amazing!
