outside, my motto is nuke 'em! We have tons in this area.
Inside, I found this to work nicely. Baby powder. Weird huh?
They HATE it. I sprinkle it on the floor around baseboards, and on window sills, as inconspicously as possible, just anywere I see them coming in, usually baseboards and window. (not tons, just some)
I don't know why, but it works, smells good and is non toxic.
If you don't mind a bit of power on the floor try it.

Depends on where your ants are... If you are having a problem with ants inside the home, baby powder works quite well, the ants don't like to walk across it. Outside, pick a day that it will not rain, and use any of the suggestions already posted. Good luck.

There is this new or maybe old it is called ant syrup and they take it back to the nest and it is such a slow working poison that they feed it to the queen and it kills the whole nest. I found it at Lowes in the pest control aisle. of course the best thing is to have an exterminator spray once a month but the syrup works great.

Ants become a nuisance when they enter homes. Instead of spending money on costly pest control, you can get rid of ants by removing the food source and using soap water.

The only thing that has ever worked for me is the TAT spheres. They look like cans of potted meat. You set them out wherever the ants are, and they can smell the poison, and as soon as they eat it they die. It is harmless. But if you have children, set them out of reach. There are no odors or mess. Just set it out, trap them, kill them and throw it away. You can buy them at Wal-Mart, a True Value, or even a Dollar Store. It really works.

When I lived in California, the only way we were able to get rid of them was with an exterminator. Unfortunately, no other method worked.

Grits work well and are inexpensive. It can take up to a week but they take it back to the hill and after they eat it it dehydrates them and they die. I have several animals and children so I don't' like chemicals.

Your best bet would be to use ant traps. Put one in every area were you think the ants are coming from and you should be fine

You can use ant bait traps, which can easily be hidden from pets and children. No fumes or smell.
