How do you switch cell phone numbers in a Verizon family plan? The sales associate told us today that we would be able to go online and press Switch Phones to change the phone number. I don't see this option. Can somebody please help? I don't want to have to pay $20 to take care of this.

You're not actually switching the mobile numbers. What you are changing is the ESN or the electronic serial number. It would be free if you did it online however, due to some system limitations, a customer doing a swap online would be impossible. I recommend you call 611 from your cell or 800 922 0204 and explain what you would like to do. The issue is this: you cannot put the same serial number on two different mobile numbers. We would have to enter in a "bogus" serial number so that the one would be freed up... Hope that makes sense. Good luck.

An assumption of liability is not a new contract and does not entitle you to new phones at the new customer price. All you are doing is assuming legal liability for the cost of your lines. Your eligibility to upgrade remains what is is now and you will be eligible to upgrade when you complete 20 months of your contracts. To be eligible for new phones at the new customer price, you would have to end the contracts for your lines and pay the ETFs and then start over with your new family plan.

You should be able to call Verizon customer care and tell them you want to change one of the phone numbers on the line. They do not charge you for this service and can be done at anytime without having to renew your service agreement.

I switched numbers at the store and it didn't cost me anything. But maybe it was because I was due for a free upgrade, which I did. Check again.
