To be an attorney in any state, you have to graduate from a college with a Bachelor's degree in some major... then you have to sit and take the LSAT exam... if you pass then you can choose a Law School and fill out an application to attend and IF you are accepted... (some apply for 2 to 3 years before they are accepted)... it will take you another 3 full years of INTENSE study carrying a full load of credits each semester (12 to 15 credits per sememster for full time student and minumum of 6 credits as a part time student... but as a part time student financial help may not be handed out to you and it will take you at least 5 years to get thru law school as a part time student)... then if and after you graduate from Law School, you have to sit in your state and take the State Bar Exam... and IF YOU PASS IT... you have to apply for a job with a law firm and work as a "plebe" attorney for at least a year...

This professional field takes strong dedication, brains, intense work and if you are married, it will most likely cause the marriage to end up in the divorce courts. I worked in a Law School for many years and watched many law students struggle to go thru law school and the results of their work. Many did not make it... some did but lost their marriage... and then there were those who were successful... but it takes a willing spouse to understand what a law student has to go thru to get their degree. I also knew law students who graduated and had to take the State Bar Exam 8 times before they passed it and that exam is given only 2 times a year... so compute how long they worked as a legal "go-for" before they could become a licensed attorney and begin to paractice law. You cannot practice law and be called an attorney until you have passed the State Bar Exam. Hope this answers your question... Good Luck!
