Um, I really don't understand the previous poster. When skating, if you push on the toe side of your board you will have to twist the foot that is still attached to your board quite a bit. If you push on your heelside you can keep both feet pointed the same direction and eliminate any twisting.
I've been riding more than 20 years now and I find that skating on my heel side is much easier on my front knee than when pushing on the toe side.
EDIT: and as for the person who posted after me. If you don't even know what skating is then you shouldn't be offering advice.
For everyone else. Skating is when you are riding one-footed. This is usually done to get on or off a chair lift or to cover an expanse of flat terrain. It's called skating because you push with your feet like you do on a skateboard.

Use which ever side feels most comfortable to you... Paul prefers heel side because it's better for his knees, while I prefer toe side because it provides me with better balance.
Try 'em both and see which one you like best...

toe side, because of the position you foot has in the front binding, it twists your leg less

You will have to use both sooner or later.I think there the same,if you can ride you can glide,if you can't ride stay off the mountian.

either side works, it just depends on which one feels better to you when you have to do it.
