In the US, it is legal only in one state (Mass) and it is not recognized at all for the purposes of federal law.

In Spain, Canada, the Netherlands and some Scandinavian countries, it is completely legal, although there are some restrictions on adoption.

In Britain, marriage is illegal but domestic partner registrations are legal, and these act similarly to a marriage; though again there are some restrictions.

In many countries, neither marriage nor domestic partnerships are permitted for gay or lesbian couples.

Vermont and Massachuttes are the only legal states that gay marriage is legal. I have a wife and we are not legally married but we had our own ceremony with family and friends right here in south carolina. Marriage is a just a piece of paper but its all about what lies in your heart. We had a wonderful time and are so happy.
