.. so Canada is finally going to sign a softwood lumber deal next week with the U.S. Just how much has the new conservative government given away? Is it a good deal or a bad one for Canadians?

You have something else we've been eying up there. Your Athabasca Oil Sands near Alberta. Even though it would be an ecological nightmare to process the oil, you still have 8 times the amount of oil the Saudi reserves do.

Venezuela has an even larger supply of sand oil than Canada, but because Canada is more politically stable (not to mention geographically accessible) , its an easier pick.

It's is not yet a done deal and whether it's a good deal or not will depend on your point of view.

If this deal does go through, it is most likely the best we will get. The US has not shown good faith in these negotiations so far.
