People drink for a number of reasons...Firstly to socialise, It is socialy exceptable to drink in many countrys. Some people drink to make themselves feel more confident, happy, or to feel better when they are depressed or down. People sometimes drink to extent to forget about things in the past or future, or if they are at a very low point in their lifes others just enjoy drinking!

This is assuming you are actually talking about alcohol. People drink because they enjoy the taste of alcohol or to get drunk because it makes them more confident, better mood or to try and forget their problems.
