Why does Mr. Cockroach run away from me? Does he know he is soon going to die? Is he trying to escape? Does he know that death is not a good thing? Does he understand that it might hurt? How does he know all these things? Can we call him sentient?

We run because we fear the sting of the heel, the lash of the rolled up newspaper, the crushing blow of the fist. But if we are squelched we go to cockroach heaven where each of us have ten thousand cockroach virgins for our playthings, which means lots and lots of other cockroaches to come down and plague you! Fear the roach, for we will always come back!

You can call him any darn thing you want, he's still just a cockroach! And of course he's going to run, and of course he knows he will more than likely die! He's had years of ancestors forwarning him about what he can expect out of life. He doesn't care though, because there are more of "him" than of "us", and when all is said and done, we'll be dead, and his filthy family will still be here!
