It's a very sad day to remember how the Europeans started the invasion of America, and the killing of most natives. And it's a sad day to remember the most outrageous Christian devastation of other religions and cultures.

I do. According to the "stories" it was Columbus who found America first. Not America Vaspusche. (I think that is his name)So in honor of not being honored this guy gets a national holiday. I am taking it and feeling no guilt. Of course in the history class they didn't tell about how Columbus died from syphillis of which he gave to a fair amount of Indian maidens and how the new settlers gave Indians blankets laced with small pox to kill em off and how 7 million people died in South America and the carribean islands because of small pox because of the folks coming in from Italy. If they wanna sanction this because that's what happened during that time, well I am going to take it. Right or Wrong.

No day off. Exactly what is so important? Columbus discovered America. So who discovered Europe? Just another excuse to shop and increase the national debt.

No, I don't have the day off. The holiday should be obsolete. Originally we celebrated it because he was believed to be the first explorer of America, but that's false. It's just a lame excuse now for retailers to throw a sale, to get consumers to to the mall and spend money on things they don't need.
