Hello,

I think I am just worrying too much. My husband is on probation for a misdemeanor (which will be off his record in feb). He is starting a new job next month and their only requirement is to get a passport and be able to rent a car. His probation officer says there should not be a problem with that, but like I said, I am worried.
any thoughts?

No worries, however it is also depending on what kind of misdemeanor it was. Put in the application and don't sweat it. Also when crossing borders it is good not to tell your life story and only answer the questions.

A misdemeanor really doesn't factor into a passport application process. But as someone else said, the probation might? If the probation officer said it was okay, though, just give it a shot and see what happens. There's no point in worrying, right?

I could find anything about misdemeanors on the State Department's Passport page. The link is below. My guess is his probation officer knows what he's talking about. I would have suggested asking if getting a passport violated his probation, but it appears you have asked about that.

If he is currently on probation, he cannot get a passport. When it is finalized, he can.

It's pretty easy except on how worrisome the misdemeanor was , they'll usually give you one since there are not many requirements .
