I know the basic phases of mitosis and cytokinesis, but why is it important in the big scheme of things? I get it divides cells, but why is that significant? Thanks!!

So then why is DNA replication important?

DNA replication is what codes for your body proteins (heart muscle, skeletal muscle, all kinds of muscles in your body), and your body fluids. Cells need to constantly divide to form new cells that will replace the worn out cells. If cells do not divide constantly, then there's trouble when you have bruises because the bruises will never heal. Cell division reproduces cells that replaces the cells that are damaged in a wound. Do you now see the importance of cell division?

Mitosis is the sexual reproduction of single - celled organisms (cells). This means that without mtiosis, you would be dead because all the cells of your vital organs that are needed to live would not have existed with out this replication of cells.
This is not the only reason. Important types of bacteria ( such as e coli ) uses mitosis to reproduce. Without this reproduction, ecoli would NOT exist in your body.
Hope this helps :) :)

Mitosis duplicates cells, if mitosis did not occur than all of ones cells would have a different genetic code.

The cells divide to increase in number and weight, this is what is called growth.

Because its how organisms grow. It's how damaged tissue is repaired. It's how reproduction occurs in one celled organisms and some other asexual organisms. (Meiosis for us.) Life as we know wouldn't exist without mitosis.

I know my answer is very general...sorry.
