I guess the government in charge thinks if everyone is democratic their will be less war and everybody will be able to make a better living with out government interfering with the process, That is why Europe was freed from the grip of Hitler, if every country turns communists then they will come after us. Just like most communists governments want to take over the world, and prevent the spread of freedom. If all people are free they are less likely to fight each other. All so I agree with Carla.

This strain of thought comes from the Neoconservatives wing of the Republican party. Basically most Republicans are isolationists and don't care what the rest of the world does. Most Democrats want us to do what the UN tells us to. After 9-11 the isolationist philosophy of Rs was thrown out because we clearly had to do something. So the Rs had to rely on their secondary foreign policy of spreading freedom by the sword.
That being said the US is criticised when DON'T invade countries as much as we are when we DO invade countries. Anyone remember Rwanda? Remember how evil we were for not unilaterally invading Rwanda quickly to stop the genocide?
The US is actually criticised for talking to governments and for NOT talking to governments. We're critcised all the time for not having relations with Cuba, however when we pay the dictator Pinochet so he will give us intelligence about South America we are criticised and accused of supporting him and all of his horrible actions he takes after the point we paid him.
As long as we are the one super power we will always be criticised and we will always be damned if we do and damned if we don't.

... Iraq did not put America in charge.. we took charge.. because our president thinks we are the only country in the world who knows what's best for everyone. We " liberated" Viet Nam too...see how that worked out. If we payed more attention to the problems of our own societ5y and left other to thiers we would be much better off.

I dunno it may have been the thousands of people who were murdered and slaughtered by a brutal dictator who did use WMD's to kill his own people. It may have been the people who were found in all the mass graves around the country, it may have been all the women who were raped and beaten by the son's of said brutal dictator, it may have been the blatant disregard for the UN resolutions and sanctions after the Gulf war. Pick any of the above and that is what gave the Coalition that the US and Great Britain are a part of, along with numerous other countries, the right to intercede.

1. The U.S. thinks that genocide (like Saddam murdering 500,000 kurds) is a bad thing which should be stopped.
2. The U.S. Constitution
Any more questions?

My question to you is, do you prefer to let the Islamist Janjiweed in Darfur murder hundreds of thousands of people or does your conscience tell you to liberate them from that fate?
When General Eisenhower led US troops through Nazi Germany he made them walk through the extermination camps and look at the ovens. He told them, "I can't tell you what you are fighting for, I can only show you what you are fighting against."

WE did not choose to liberate Iraq.
However, everyone who voted for Bush the first and second times gave him the right to do so!

There are currently on average 100 civilians killed in Iraq daily. I think that they may feel that they have been 'liberated' enough. I mean, not even Saddam 'liberated' them that much.

I wasn't present when the U.S. appointed itself King of the World. Everytime we meddle, invade or are responsible for invasions, the CIA goes in first and it's downhill from there, except economically. How interesting we don't go help the people dying in Africa, huh.
