it is not considered a legal marriage unless you register with city hall as a common law marriage. then is will be considered legal. each state has a different time limit.[it is not long some states it is a year or two.....]

depends on how long you have been living together and in what state, in Nj I know it's 7 years you have to live together to be common law

go to the town hall. its funny. I was thinking (for tax purposes) maybe my boyfriend and I could get one of the civil unions they give out to same-sex couples cause they won't let them get "married," but I found out that opposite-sex couples can't get a civil union!
