RE:
Is there an alternative to line and tumble drying?
I'm a student and live in a shared house that has no tumble dryer and no outside space. I'm finding it difficult to dry my clothes as the heating in our house is crap, short of buying an expensive tumble dryer (which we have no room for anyway) what can i use to get my clothes dry quickly?

If you have a hallway you could try putting a length of wood - broomstick or something like that across the hall resting on the lintels above the doors. You can then put your clothes on hangers and hang them on the rail. It will speed up the process if you can close off the hall and put on a small heater. If its a 2 story house - the top of the stairs is a good place for the rail as heat rises.

well basically an expandable line dryer which you could place over the bath and let dry, if not why not all chip in and buy a tumble dryer or if you have no room all chip in and buy a washer/dryer machine instead,I'm sure in the long run it would be cheaper than using a launderette's machines

Defiantly a clothes horse although when it's not raining you could hang some clothes out of a window to dry, how about friends or family that live near, maybe you could use their line, one of the only good thing about my mother in law!

You will have to sit for hours and keep the blow dryer moving back and forth to dry your clothes that way, plus you will probably burn out the dryer. I don't recommend it. Why don't you just buy one of those portable drying racks. You can buy a 'gull' rack for about $10, the sides come out like wings (hence the name gull) and it holds a lot of clothing.. It folds flat and can just go under your bed or against a wall until you need.it.

You can buy indoor washing lines that retract and extend when required. Over the bath is a good place to fit it, open a window, or even the poorest heating system will eventually dry it.

Ideas:!. Put them on regular hangers to dry.
2. String up a small clothesline in your bedroom and hang them on that or put clothes that are on hangers on it.
3. Get a folding clothes rack and put them on that
4. Put a hook in the ceiling to hold an umbrella. Get an old umbrella and tear off the material. Hang the umbrella on the hook from the ceiling and hang you hangers on the umbrella
5. Buy a piece of plastic and spread it on the floor. Fold your clothes and let them dry on you floor.

Lots of airers by the heating or open windows will do it, but it might take a long time. You could always iron it dry, but that's going to take a long time too, and will kill the electricity. Do you have a launderette near you? Whenever I've had to go, there's lots of people in there just drying their clothes, it's pretty cheap and not too time consuming either.
