Got a beautiful daughter of nine who has started "changing". I seem to have covered most things i.e periods, bra's, boys and everything else. Only dilemma I have is that she is quite hairy under her armpits and its quite noticeable really. Should I teach her how to remove it or leave it until she's a bit older? If i can avoid it don't really want her worrying too much about stuff like that yet as she's still a little girl. Just wondered if anyone else had any ideas?

I'm so glad that you talk to her about these changes, many parents don't, which causes absolute fear in the poor children. As you seem to have such a good relationship with her, perhaps you might tell her what you do, especially in the summer months when wearing sleeveless tops. Also you may do this in a way that makes her feel grown-up: 'Now that you've grown-up, I'll show you how I remove hair from my armpits and legs, so that I feel smooth and fresh, here's your own lady shave that you can use too.'

Hello from one parent to another:
My daughter (now 15) was also in this situation. I taught her to shave at the age of 9. She was quite concerned about the entire ordeal. But she wanted the problem gone. She took a little longer to learn but she did it.. One problem solved.. many more on the way !

Well considering that when she perspiers hairy armpits hold the sweat and cause horrible odors, unless you want people avoiding your daughter because she stinks I suggest teaching her how to shave her pits.

OK here we go. First, whatever you do, do not bring it up in front of her friends, secondly yes, she may be made fun of if she doesn't remove it. From experience, my waiting to do that has made me completely self conscious, and you don't want that. Lastly, let her talk to you about anything she wants, ANYTHING, and don't tell her 'We will when you're older' She'll just ask a friend, or find someone, who WILL tell her. I guess I got completely off topic there...but if you have any more question, you can always ask me. I hope this at leat slightly helped...

When my oldest was 9 and we were on vacation, she came out in her swimsuit and there it was. I took her in the bathroom, and taught her how to shave it. It was about two years before she ever asked to shave her legs. She didn't want fur coming out of her stockings!!!
You have to remember that it's your job to teach her what a lady does. A lady doesn't display furry armpits.

Because other kids can be so cruel, I would have her remove it. My daughter also went through this in early puberty and we left it until kids started making fun of her...she got so she did not want to leave the house. Hopefully you can save your daughter that same pain.

The sad truth is that eventually kids at school will start making fun if her in terrible ways. Use Nair or some other non-razor hair remover.

yeah, i agree, they all say shave...but since she's still young, and the hair is still really thin...why don't you talk about waxing?? it WILL hurt a bit, but $15 and she's set for a month! and the hair wont grow back coarser like it would if she shaved...
if you're scared to have her waxed, go with her!..it's not that bad, really lol..and she'll get used to it after a few times too, so it wont hurt all the time, you know

i think until she starts shaving her legs w/ a razor, you should get her nair or other hair remover lotion for under her armpits

if u dont then people will make fun of her and boys will ask her why shes so hairy under there!
