I just bought a new laptop with 3 USB ports on it. I soon discovered I actually need 5 USB ports. Is there any type of adapter that can be used to increase the number of USB ports to 5 instead of 3.

Yes there are PCMCIA cards available for Laptops which can provide additional USB ports.

Another solution for this would be to use USB hubs.

Yes. PC world do hundreds of different USB hubs. They just connect to a USB port on your laptop and add up to 8 other USB ports. Nice and easy. And they are relatively cheap.

There are adapters to let you plug in anything with a usb plug to the serial and parallel ports. Go to ebay to find them.
