When a drug is forbidden during breastfeeding it is because it is transmitted through the breast milk to the infant. Your baby's liver and kidneys are not mature enough to handle such a strong antibiotic. Anything you take it goes to the baby.

You dry up because you aren't drinking enough fluids. Your body will be shifting fluids to cope with the infection and so you need to increase water intake.

You really should give the baby formula from a bottle while you take the drug. When you have finished, then resume breast feeding. YOu can pump to keep your breasts flowing during the drug.

Your UTI (urinary tract infection) can be helped by taking cranberry capsules (any health food store) or drinking pure cranberry juice (not cocktail).

Call your doctor and he can help u with all of this.

If you don't want your baby to have the antibiotic, then you shouldn't breast feed. Continue to "pump and dump" for the course of your treatment, then you both can go back to normal if you want. As long as you schedule your pumping, the breasts will respond and drink at least eight 8oz (64oz) of water daily for your milk production and to help the UTI.
Good luck!!!
