A concealer is a type of makeup that is not the color of your skin. Hence the name, concealer, to conceal something. Concealers are used to cover anything from blemishes, birthmarks, dark circles under the eyes, etc. Concealers come in different colors, some come in shades similar to makeup, where others may be yellow, green, blue, or brown. For instance, if someone has a ruddy or red complexion, if they use a yellow concealer under their foundation it will even out the skin tones. If they have dark liver spots or birthmarks, some can be covered with green concealers. Don't be fooled, even though these concealers are different colors, when you apply it to whatever you are trying to cover and then apply foundation no one will ever know your flaws or that you used a concealer. As far as foundations, they come in a variety of coverage and colors. First, determine what type of coverage you want; do you like sheer coverage (which means you normally don't have visuable flaws on your face but you want to even out skin tone or just have a smoother look) or you need more coverage because there are things you want to hide? After you determine what type of coverage, decide on the shade. You will want to put makeup on your jawline. Whatever shade matches your face and neck the most is the correct color. If you want to learn more about foundations and concealers, different colors and coverage, you can alway go to a larger department store where makeup is sold and tell them you would like a complimentary facial. They will be happy to explain the various types of makeup. Good luck! I'm sure you will enjoy being pampered and the end results. Just remember, the softer look in the end, the more natural. Stay away from drastic, dark makeup.

Like other people said, concealer's primary purpose is to conceal. It covers up noticeable blemishes and is only used directly on the spot that needs it (e.g. a pimple or scar). The consistency is usually clay-like.

Foundation is much more lightweight and provides much thinner coverage. It is meant to smooth out your overall complexion. It does not cover major blemishes. These usually have liquid or mousse consistency, and powder foundations are becoming popular now as well.

U get a concealer for any marks, dark circles. Any blemishes u want to conceal to get 1 even tone skin color. U usually get it 1 to 2 shades lighter than your skin color. The foundation is the make-up for the finish for the entire face. Get the exact color of your skin.U use sponge or brush to apply to even on the spots where u put concealer to get 1 even color. Powder sets it.

Concealer is out there to cover particular blemishes as foundation is for an all over even look.

I recommend using either sparingly. The point is to look the best you can and not like you're trying to be someone else.

Foundation covers your entire face and not only evens out your complexion, but protects your skin from the environment so consequently every woman should use it. Concealer is used to cover places that need particular help like undereye circles, blotchy cheeks, etc. Hope that helps!

Concealer is used to hide little scars, pimples, or other imperfections. If you use it all over your face, it will probably be too cakey and look fake. Foundation is used to cover your face as a whole.
