This happens when we become imprisoned in beliefs and don't allow for any alteration of them. If we believe something is correct or true we shut our mind off to any further input or discussion. Another well known saying is that the mind is the slayer of the real. The faculty of MIND should be an instrument for creative use, and not the "slayer of the real." It should not be a barrier to the free life of the Spirit. We should strive to keep our minds open and welcome the thoughts of others and truly synthesize the knowledge available to all of us.

I'm not "positive" on this, but I think that is like when a person has something really intense on their mind, maybe something that wasn't good or right, and they haven't come to any conclusion or peace with it, thereby making a person a "prisoner of their own mind." Like I said, I'm not sure, and don't have a book to look that up.
If I'm wrong, good luck in finding the "right" answer.

I just can't quite decide how to answer this!, how far should I deconstruct this question?, what does the term prisoner mean?, how about mind? Is it a joke, should I be humourous? Is it rhetorical?

Also to refer to being trapped by preconcieved notions and not admitting new evidence or hearing other arguments.

it means the person is confined in their own mind - they think a lot about stuff - and live mainly in their mind, in the sence that you keep things to yourself and dont let things out, but it isnt always a good thing so your a prisoner of your own mind

I think i might know what does mean. (even though I don't know the contex where you find it) Is like a prisioner is lock up inside a jail cell, one is lock up inside our owns heads. We are prisioner of our feelings and judgements and no matter how hard your try to get away from it you won't go anywhere because they are inside of you and within you. You can't you just stop being you.... (this saying is very deep..)

It means you think too much, so much in fact, that you can't enjoy life anymore. Your thoughts prevent you from enjoying anything because you're always deconstructing every little event as it happens.
