I had the same issue. I sprinkled hot paprika over the base of the garden and never saw them again. My mother in law gave me the tip.

Last year I was trying the rat traps with little success when I read here about using a 5 gallon bucket chipmunk swimming pool. I have had much better luck with this method. Whenever I feel that I am being overrun with chipmunks this method works quickly. I average 4 chipmunks a day and once got 8 in a day.
The swimming pool is a five gallon bucket half full of water with the surface covered in sunflower seeds (they float). There is a diving board that is a 1 by 6 board that has some seeds sprinkled on it. The chipmunk eats the seeds on the board gets to the end and dives into the sunflower seed. Unfortunately he can't swim. I don't mind the holes in the flower beds as much as the tunnels dug around my foundation and under my concrete walks.
Also effective is getting a life size plastic Owl decoy, sold at Home Depot etc, and hang in the area. Owls are the chipmunks natural enemy (along with hawks) and they won't stay around long! Good luck.

They're hard to get rid of, so I suggest not covering up their existing holes as they will just make more holes. If they are bothering the veggies or flowers in the garden, you might try red pepper (cayenne).

Human hair! Got to your barber/stylist and ask them for a little cut hair. I works on rabbits, squirrels and chipmunks. It sounds corny but it works.

I don't know if you want to ice them but a rat trap with peanut butter will kill them.
