Everything is computerized now. As long as they want, and longer than you want. Knowingly writing a "bad cheque" is fraud, a chargeable offence.

until you pay it back-- then it takes about two weeks to clear your name-- but you can have a manager over ride and manually imput your check info if you have to pay by check
